Find my Draw Length
There are four ways that are most commonly used to find your draw length. Each person has their own prefered method and this topic is always up for debate. The prefered method that East Van Archers uses is called button to base. We use this method because new archers have not developed their form and there is much more room for error using just the draw length arrow. Only when we have checked your draw length using the button to base method, we will then double check it on a draw length arrow marked to measure draw length. This method was introduced to me by someone who is a Certified High Performance Competition Archery Coach and MLF (Master Learning Facilitator) who trains top archers and stars.
To find your draw length, using the the button to base method you require two people, a wall, and a tape measure in inches.
Here is the process:
- Stand tall with your back, shoulders and the backs of your feet against the wall.
- Extend your bow arm out to the side keeping it straight and flat against the wall
- Have someone measure from the center of your chest where the buttons on a button-up shirt would be to the end of your wrist at the beginning of your hand where you bend your wrist
- Take note of how many inches this measurement is
- Double check that the person who is being measured is standing tall, back, shoulders, and feet are against the wall, the arm is straight, then measure again. Rounding up to the next half inch will give you your draw length.
